Hamner Springs also has 2 skifields close by of worthwhile note. The Hamner Springs Ski Area and Mount Lyford Ski field are relatively small and suited to intermediate boarders and skiers but provide the outdoor enthusiast with more than enough entertainment for the day. The Waiau Ferry Bridge has a spectacular bungy jump with a good viewing area from the base cafe. Jet boat rides up the swift running Waiau river operate on a regular basis and a 2 hour rafting trip through the Waiau River Canyon completes the adventure package. Hiking and biking throughout the area will take you through the Hanmer Forest Park , a mixture of Black pines, Norway spruce and Douglas firs. Pick up a Hamner Forest recreation map from the information centre. Quad bike trips, Motorbike Safaris and Horse riding treks explore the surrounding hills with the Horse riding treks offering anything from 2hours to 12 days. The best treks follow old gold mining trails or stock routes between some of the oldest and largest stations in the district.

There always many things to do in Hamner Springs, and it is the gateway to the Lewis Pass which takes you over to the West Coast. From here you can also visit the Molesworth station, Lake Tennyson and Rainbow station. There are popular 4wd routes through these areas to follow on a guided tour.
